IMPORTANT: Effective beginning on January 1, 2011, over-the-counter medicines or drugs (e.g. Advil, Ibuprofen, cough syrup) are not eligible for reimbursement under an FSA, without a doctor’s prescription. Insulin is the only medicine that doesn’t require a prescription. Also supplies that you need for medical care (e.g. contact lens solutions, bandages for wounds, thermometers) will continue to be eligible for reimbursement.
As such, upcoming enrollment in your employer’s flexible spending account should take into consideration as of 1/1/2011, over the counter items will no longer be reimbursable under the health FSA.
Important Things to Know for 2010 -2011
- Allen ISD Cafeteria plan year runs from September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011
IMPORTANT: These accounts are “USE IT OR LOSE IT.” Effective beginning on January 1, 2011, over-the-counter medicines or drugs will no longer eligible for reimbursement under an FSA without a doctor’s prescription. - MGM Administrators is the Third Party Administrator (TPA) for the Flex spending accounts in Allen ISD for the plan year September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. Direct deposit is available.
- Guardian continues as the Dental carrier for the coming year. There continues to be three options to choose from. The dental premiums remain the same effective 9/1/2010. Summaries with fee schedules and rates are available on Benefit Highlights / Dental.
- Transamerica continues as the Cancer carrier for the coming year. There are two options to choose from. Plan summary and rates are available on the Benefits & Forms / Cancer link.
- VSP is the vision provider again this year. The premiums remain the same for the coming year. The plan summary and rates are available at Benefits & Forms / Vision.
- The Unum Disability plan will have some changes to the benefits but the cost remains the same. Anyone can apply and all coverage is Guaranteed Issue, which means no Evidence of Insurability is required. All new amounts of coverage are subject to pre-existing condition limitations. - Mutual of Omaha term life: New employees can enroll guaranteed issue is up to 7 times salary or $150,000; $50,000 for spouse and $10,000 for children. Anyone adding new coverage will need to complete the Evidence of Insurability form and be approved for coverage. Click on Benefits & Forms /Life / Voluntary Life for rates and information.
- Texas Life Individual Life insurance is available again this year. Anyone interested in this coverage should contact FBS to get an application. The plan summary is available at click on Benefits & Forms / Life /Permanent Life.
